Hermiston man killed in Malheur County crash

MALHEUR COUNTY, Ore.-A Hermiston man is dead after a crash near Harper on the afternoon of July 8.

Oregon State Police (OSP) responded to the single-vehicle crash on Highway 20, near milepost 220, around 12:30 p.m.

According to the OSP, a Kenworth semitruck going eastbound entered the shoulder of the road, where the driver, 33-year-old Alberto Ruiz Gomez, of Hermiston, overcorrected and the semi flipped.

The Malheur County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon Department of Transportation assisted OSP at the crash site, and traffic was reportedly impacted for about an hour and a half.

Ruiz Gomez died at the scene, according to the OSP.

The OSP Collision Reconstruction Unit, which investigates all deadly crashes on Oregon’s highways, is now investigating the crash.
