Hermiston man killed in Union County crash

UNION COUNTY, Ore.-A Hermiston man was killed in a car versus tractor crash on Highway 204 on April 10.

According to Oregon State Police (OSP), the crash happened when Michael Cribbs of Hermiston, driving a Hyundai Sonata westbound crossed into the eastbound lanes and hit a John Deere tractor, driven by a 42-year-old North Powder man, head-on.

Oregon State Police responded to the crash near milepost 33 around 3:15 p.m. The Union County Sheriff’s Office, Elgin Rural Fire, the La Grande Fire Department and Oregon Department of Transportation also responded to the crash that affected traffic in the area for about four hours.

The John Deere overturned after being hit and the driver was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

The Hyundai was heavily damaged in the crash and Cribbs died at the scene from his injuries. His next-of-kin have been notified, according to the OSP.

The Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, which investigates deadly and critical injury crashes on highways in Oregon, is now investigating the crash.
