Hermiston Parent University Set for Week of Jan. 27

The Hermiston School District will host a visit by Dr. Luis Cruz, an education reformer from inner-city Los Angeles during the week of Jan. 27.

Cruz will present Parent University sessions to inform parents about “Test Taking Success.”

Cruz will speak at each secondary school in the district during the week of Jan. 27. Bulldog Parent University will be held at Hermiston High School on Monday, Jan. 27. Parent University will kick off for the middle schools on Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Sandstone Middle School, and Armand Larive Middle School will host Cruz on Wednesday, Jan. 29. The events will begin at 5 p.m. with an English parent session, which will be followed by a Spanish parent session at 7 p.m.

The next Parent University nights will be the week of March 10, and Cruz will share “Finishing Strong, Celebrating Successes”

Cruz is a former principal of Baldwin Park High School, located east of Los Angeles. His previous work experience includes being a teacher and administrator at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. His recognitions include New Teacher of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Administrator of the Year, and other community leadership awards. Cruz earned a doctorate in institutional leadership and policy studies from the University of California Riverside.
