HERMISTON, Ore.-The Hermiston School District is celebrating the first-year of the Hermiston Student Health Center (HSHC).

The HSHC, located inside Hermiston High School, is a partnership between the HSD and Umatilla County Health (Uco) to expand student access to healthcare.

“We’ve heard from many students that they appreciate the ease and convenience of accessing care at HSHC,” said Alisha Lundgren, Deputy Director of UCo Health. “This collaboration has allowed us to meet students where they are and eliminate barriers to essential healthcare.”

Since opening during the 2024-25 school year, the HSHC has become a vital resource on campus, providing preventive and responsive medical services directly to Hermiston youth, according to the HSD.

“We are so proud to be part of a model that prioritizes student wellness and equity in care,” said Lundgren.

Impact of the HSHC for the 2024-25 school year

  • 424 visits conducted with the Nurse Practitioner
  • 327 individuals served
  • 51 percent of students served were covered by the Oregon Health Plan
  • 5 percent of students were not currently enrolled in health insurance
  • More than $25,000 in insurance reimbursements collected to support HSHC operations
  • $25,000 EOCCO grant awarded to encourage adolescent visits
  • $30,000 grant from Wildhorse Foundation for initial medical equipment

Open to all students enrolled in the district, the primary focus of the HSHC is to provide care to reduce the amount of time students spend away from school, according to the HSD’s website.

The HSHC at 600 S. 1st Street is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers the diagnosis and treatment of illness, physical exams, sports physicals, immunizations and more. Walk-in appointments are available.

More information about the HSHC is available online or by calling 541.667.6199.
