HERMISTON, Ore.-The City of Hermiston is in the process of updating its Transportation System Plan (TSP), and residents are invited to learn more about proposed projects and provide feedback until February 3.

A TSP is a comprehensive, long-range planning document outlining projects, programs, and policies to meet the transportation needs of a given area over the next 20 years.

Ongoing commercial development, and the addition of jobs and increased population growth creates challenges not anticipated in the current TSP, which dates back to 1997 and has been updated five times, most recently in 2015, according to the City of Hermiston.

Community input is an essential part of updating the TSP, and the project team held public engagement activities, including a pop-up event and online open house, to collect feedback on existing conditions throughout the Fall of 2025.

According to the City, residents expressed their desire for projects that included sidewalk improvements, more off-street trails, more street lighting, more local street connections and improved street connections.

Projects proposed in the updated TSP include roadway and intersection projects, trail and bike projects, pedestrian projects, and transit projects.

An Interactive Project Map showing all proposed projects is available online, and Hermiston residents can provide feedback on the proposed projects through an online open house and survey.

Feedback may be provided online or by mail to the City of Hermiston Planning Department at 180 NE 2nd Street, Ste 211, Hermiston, OR 97838, until February 3.

Hermiston began the process of updating its TSP in the Spring of 2025, with concept design and project recommendations set throughout the winter, with a draft TSP expected in Spring of 2026, followed by adoption hearings and the final TSP in late Spring or over the summer.

The City will announce dates for adoption of the TSP when they are known. More information on Hermiston’s TSP update is available via email at planning@hermiston.gov.
