HHS Science Teacher Earns Mentor Honor

Leah Smith, agriculture science teacher at Hermiston High School, was recently recognized by the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE) as this year’s Region I Teacher Mentor.

Leah is a DuPont Ambassador, CASE (Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education) certified, an XLR8 participant and has been a presenter at NAAE, National Future Farmers of America Convention, and Oregon State Agriculture Conferences various times.

Leah works collaboratively in multiple classrooms teaching assignments to assist new teachers in curriculum development, and strengthen cross curricular content including the organization of teaching assignments. Leah is part of two PLC teams, where she plans lessons, writes tests, compares common formative assessment results with teachers, and collaborates on how to better their classrooms. In her free time, she conducts peer observations and provides insightful input when needed.

Leah has been a school district employee since 2007. She is starting her 15th year as an agriculture educator.
