HEPPNER, Ore.-The Heppner High School football team opened its 2025 season on the road with a dominant 43-6 victory over Crane on August 29.
The Mustangs are looking to build on a state semifinal appearance last year, after coming up just short against St. Paul, the eventual 2-A State Champions.
First-year Head Coach Robert Wilson takes the reins for the Mustangs this season, replacing Greg Grant, who retired after 34 years and three state titles with Heppner.
“Every team is different,” said Coach Wilson, who has been an assistant coach at Heppner for the past eight seasons. “This team has a lot of potential and I’m excited to see us grow.”
Four seniors should anchor the line for Heppner this season, setting the tone through a tough nonleague schedule of Crane, St. Paul and Lost River, before the Mustangs start conference play.
Heppner’s full 2025 football schedule is available online.
“I expect us to compete and improve throughout the season,” said Coach Wilson.
Heppner’s next game is against St. Paul at Dufur High School on September 5.
