A Umatilla man is in jail on drunk driving charges following a crash on Highway 207 that sent a Hermiston man to the hospital Saturday evening.

According to the Oregon State Police, the accident occurred around 6:15 p.m. when a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Alberto Perez collided with a 1992 Geo Metro at the Punkin Center Road intersection.

The driver of the Geo Metro, Baldomero Valencia Garcia, 46, of Hermiston, had to be extricated from his vehicle by the Hermiston Fire Department. He was taken by air ambulance to Kadlec Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Perez, 39, was not injured in the accident. He was arrested and jailed on a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants. The OSP was assisted at the scene by the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
