The Hermiston Police Department is warning the public about a “get-rich-quick scheme happening in Hermiston.

The police were informed recently of a meeting that took place on Sunday, Oct. 8. According to the HPD, the meeting was hosted by a business offering a “get-rich-quick” program whose target audience was Hermiston’s Latino population.

On its Facebook page, HPD is strongly suggesting citizens do their homework regarding companies offering amazing, fantastic, out-of-this-world opportunities, or to find just the right person for whatever job or service you require.

The Facebook statement said:

“The Better Business Bureau, Construction Contractor’s Board, or any number of other consumer safety organizations can be found with a click of the mouse or a swipe of the finger. A simple online search using the company’s name will often disclose known complaints or issues customers have encountered with a business. Conversely, you may find out the business is A+ rated with a ton of happy customers.

We would just like to remind people that if something seems to be too good to be true, it often turns out to be exactly that.

Do your homework, protect yourself and your hard-earned money, and know we are here when you need us. “
