Day and nighttime construction activities continue in Hermiston along Highway 395 for the Oregon Department of Transportation’s $3.7 million highway improvement project. Motorists and pedestrians can expect lane closures and minor detours around ADA sidewalk ramps. Most of the work will be performed at nighttime to minimize impacts to traffic and local businesses along the route.

Traffic impacts for the week of March 7 are as follows:

Dayshift
Monday–Thursday 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Signal work at Jenny. This will include final installation of the conduits off the roadway. No lane closure anticipated for this work.

Nightshift
Monday–Thursday 4 p.m. – 2 a.m.: Continue upgrading ADA ramps between Fourth Street and Theater Lane. No lane closures until 6 p.m. After 6 p.m. expect multiple lane closures reducing Highway 395 to one lane at times. Detours are in place for pedestrian access.

Additional evening work includes forming and pouring concrete Monday–Thursday for ADA ramps, curb, gutter and sidewalk as needed (approximately 2-truck loads of concrete per night). Watch for trucks, equipment and work crews. Excavation work for ADA ramps will also be performed Wednesday and Thursday.

The construction project includes rebuilding dozens of ADA sidewalk ramps, updating traffic signal controls at several intersections, installing new traffic signals at the Jennie Avenue intersection, installing median curbs to control turning movements at the Elm Street (OR 207) intersection, and repaving the six-mile-long section of highway between S.E. Fourth Street (mile post 6) and Highway 730 (mile post zero). Paving work is not expected to begin until the May timeframe. All work is scheduled to be completed by July 4.
