Irrigon's Doug Foster Passes Away at Age 65

Lawrence W. L. “Doug” Foster died on Feb. 8, 2015 at his home in Irrigon at the age of 65.

He was born on Nov. 8, 1949 in Jenkins, Mo., to Lawrence and Allie Foster. Doug was raised in Missouri, California, and Klamath Falls. He served in the Army from 1968 until 1971, with a tour Vietnam, before returning to California. Doug married Carol Henry in 1973. They lived in Marysville, Calif., for several years. They moved to Irrigon in 1978, Umatilla in 1980, and Irrigon again in 1990.

Carol preceded him in death in 1999. Doug married Tracy Yardley on July 13, 2005 in Port Orchard, Wash. They moved to Boardman in 2000, and returned to Irrigon in 2009 where they have lived since. Doug worked for many years in the security detail at the Umatilla Army Depot. He later worked for a time at the ethanol plant in Boardman.

Doug spent many years helping others, involved in Search & Rescue, Marine Duty, Morrow County Sheriff Reserve, and Umatilla City Code Enforcement. He served in the United States Army and the Oregon National Guard for 22 years when he retired. Doug enjoyed crossword puzzles with his daughter Betty, listening to the scanner, traveling, telling stories, and taking Curtis and Betty to museums.

He is survived by his wife, Tracy Foster; children, Cliff Foster, Vickie Beaver, Douglas Gene, Curtis Foster, & Betty Foster; stepchildren, Tony Martin, Kerry Tuenbaugh, & Donna Rader; grandchildren, Joey, Beau, Travis, Alicia, james, Sharon, Chris, Greg, Johnathen, Kevin, & Nora; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Benjamin Paul, Henry Frances, & Frankie Dean; and a sister, Evelyn.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Columbia View Community Church, 1240 E. Highway 730 in Irrigon.

Burial with military honors will follow at the Desert Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Irrigon.
