Umatilla County Health (UCo Health) reported two new confirmed cases of coronavirus today.

That brings the county’s total number of confirmed cases to 119.

UCo Health said both of the individuals are self-isolating and recovering at home.

UCo Health also reported a new presumptive cases in Umatilla County, bring that total to five. A presumptive case is someone who does not have a positive PCR test – a “Polymerase Chain Reaction” that confirms if a person has COVID-19 – but is showing symptoms and has had close contact with a confirmed case. If they later test positive by PCR, those will be re-categorized as confirmed cases.

Of the 119 confirmed cases, 106 have recovered and one is hospitalized. Three have died.

Umatilla County has the sixth most coronavirus cases among Oregon’s 36 counties.

There remains only 12 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Morrow County.

Individuals are considered recovered when they have been free from symptoms including fever, cough, shortness of breath and diarrhea for 72 hours.

As Gov. Kate Brown starts slowly lifting restrictions on activities and businesses, it’s important to remember that health and hygiene advice that slows the spread of COVID-19 still applies:

  • Stay home if you are sick. If you develop symptoms while in public, return home and self-isolate immediately. Contact your health care provider if you need medical attention.
  • People who are at risk for severe complications (over age sixty or have underlying medical conditions) should stay home even if you feel well.
  • Practice good hand hygiene with frequent handwashing for at least twenty seconds or use hand sanitizer (60-95% alcohol content).
  • Cover coughs/sneezes with your elbow or a tissue and avoid touching your face.
  • Practice physical distancing of at least six feet between you and people you do not live with.
  • Use cloth, paper or disposable face coverings in public.
  • Stay close to home. Avoid overnight trips and other non-essential travel, including recreational day trips to destinations outside the community where you live.

  1. Umatilla County Health is a very BIG JOKE! I was the first to get Coronavirus in Umatilla County and not once was I ever asked who I was in close contact with prior to my 11 day hospitalization. Turns out that a close contact of mine DID get it also, but I was never asked who my close contacts were. These people get paid well to not do their jobs well! The department is a very costly JOKE! I have kept silent for too long now. My admission to the hospital in Walla Walla on February 29th was a blessing, thank goodness I went to Walla Walla!!!!!! My close contact who also got the virus used Pendleton hospital and did not receive the care I did, and had to almost beg for a test. It took him 2 days to get tested, why?
