It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kelly Shy, who left this world peacefully on Sept. 2, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Kelly was born on Jan. 19, 1980 in Atwater, Calif. to Jim Sowders and Sharon Clee. In 1994 she moved to Oregon, where she grew up in the Portland area before settling in Hermiston in 2016. Kelly worked for the Hermiston School District as part of the kitchen staff, where she was loved and appreciated by her coworkers and students she served.
Kelly had a deep love for the outdoors, whether it was soaking up the sun, taking in the beauty of nature, or exploring new places through her travels. She also loved baking and sharing her creations with friends and family. Above all, Kelly’s greatest joy in life was being a mother to her two beloved sons, Aiden and Beau, who were her pride and joy. Everything she did was for them, and her unconditional love and strength will remain their guiding light.
Kelly is survived by her sons, Aiden and Beau; her parents, Jim Sowders and Sharon Clee; her siblings, Joey, Soozie, Donna, Donny, Heather, and Danielle; her eight nephews and one niece; and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, David, and her grandparents Montgomery and grandparents Correia.
Kelly will be remembered for her warm heart, contagious laughter, and the way she always made others feel loved and supported. She had a gift for making even ordinary moments feel special, whether through heartfelt talks, laughter, or simply being there when she was needed most.
Though Kelly’s time with us was far too short, the impact she made will last forever. Her love and light will continue to shine through her family, especially her two boys, and through all who were lucky enough to know and love her.
