Ken Freeman Passes Away at 76

Kenneth R. “Ken” Freeman of Hermiston died on Sept. 8, 2026 in Portland at the age of 76.

He was born on Aug. 22, 1950 in Yakima, Wash. to Leonard and Luella Harris Freeman.

Ken was raised and attended school in Benton City, Wash. He later graduated with a theology degree in Colorado. Ken served as a pastor throughout the years in Washington and Oregon. He moved to Hermiston in 1997, where he had lived since.

Ken was a member of the Nazarene church. He volunteered at Good Shepherd Hospital and the Hermiston Homeless Shelter. Ken enjoyed visiting with people, church activities, volunteering and helping others.

He is survived by his daughter, Dawn Casas, Greeley, Colo.; grandchildren, Dominic Casas, Aurora, Colo., and Josh Freeman and Samantha Freeman, both of Kennewick, Wash.; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and adopted family, the Renterias from Irrigon.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rustin Freeman; and two brothers, Darrell and Victor Freeman.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026 at 2 p.m. at the Sunset Hills Cemetery, Umatilla.
