LA GRANDE, Ore. – Two schools from Northeastern Oregon are still playing in the Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) State Tournament.

The Baker boys and girls teams are still alive for a title, as are the La Grande girls.

La Grande raced past The Dalles, 48-28 in the first-round of the playoffs on March 7 to reach the quarterfinals.

“The last time we qualified for the final tournament site was five years ago during COVID,” said La Grande Head Coach Brian Wright.

The Tigers went 19-4 this season, edging out Baker for the Greater Oregon League Championship, behind a balanced roster that could lead to a deep run at state.

“We are a balanced team with multiple players able to contribute either by scoring or on defense,” said Coach Wright. “60 times this season different players have scored in double figures.”

A look through La Grande’s roster shows just how balanced Coach Wright’s team is, with six of eleven players scoring over 100 points throughout the season, and a seventh scoring 99.

The La Grande community has been behind the team all season and the Tigers will feel that support as they head to the west side of the state to take on Cascade in the quarterfinals on March 13 at Forest Grove High School.

“We have always enjoyed community support and this season has been no exception,” said Coach Wright. “We are grateful to all who support the team by attending games, donating to fundraising efforts, and helping out in any way.”

Tip-off for La Grande and Cascade is set for 3:15 p.m. on March 13. The game will be livestreamed through the National Federations of State High School Associations (NFHS) Network on the OSAA website. The game will also be broadcast live by the OSAA radio network.
