HEPPNER, Ore.-A wildland fire east of Heppner burned around 3,000 acres on July 23.
Multiple fire departments responded to the fire that was started by lightning near Little Butter Creek and Healy Road east of Heppner around 12:20 a.m.
Heppner Fire Rescue, Lexington Fire, Ione Fire, and Boardman Fire Rescue District responded to the fire. According to the Heppner Fire Department, landowners and farmers in the area assisted and the fire was out around 3:18 a.m.
The fire rekindled around 9:30 a.m. and the Heppner Fire Department, Morrow County Emergency Management, Lexington Fire and Rescue, Boardman Fire Rescue District, Echo Fire Department, Pilot Rock Fire Department, and Morrow County Public Works are all responded, fighting the fire for most of the day.
According to the Heppner Fire Department, the fire was declared out at 8:12 p.m. and about 3,000 acres were burned.
