Larry Horn Passes Away at 70

Lawrence Craig “Larry” Horn of Hermiston passed away in Hermiston on July 12, 2025 at the age of 70.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1955 in La Grande to Stanley and Barbara Thompson Horn.

Larry grew up and attended schools in Elgin, where he graduated from high school in the class of 1973. After high school he enlisted in the Army, where he served for four years and was active during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Eastern Oregon and began working at the Umatilla Army Depot. He lived in the Hermiston area until 2002 when he transferred to Tooele, Utah, where he continued to work as a chemical safety specialist until retiring in 2013. He worked for a total of 33 years for the Department of Defense. Larry moved back to Hermiston in 2021, where he had resided for the past four years.

Larry was a member of the Moose Lodge in Tooele, Utah, where he had served as the governor. He enjoyed golfing, going to car shows, fishing, Corvettes and his dog, Buster.

He is survived by a son, Jamie Horn; daughter, Crystal (Jason) Lee; son, Casey (Heidi) Horn; stepchildren, Alicia Pitt, Krystn (Abe) Lloyd and Ty Green; 15 grandchildren; sisters, Connie and Lillie; and brothers, Emmett and Chris.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bruce.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025 at the Elgin Community Center, 260 N. 10th St.
