A Kennewick man was arrested this morning by Hermiston police after he attempted to elude following a traffic stop and then ran a stop sign and hit another vehicle.

David A. Bjurlin, 31, was stopped by a Hermiston police officer around 11:15 a.m. in the area of W. Highland Avenue and S. First Street. Bjurlin initially pulled over, but sped off as the officer walked up to his car. Bjurlin ran the stop sign at W. Highland and S. First Street and struck another vehicle. The female driver suffered unknown injuries and was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center.

Bjurlin was charged with two counts of attempt to elude (by vehicle and by foot), failure to perform the duties of a driver involved in an accident, third-degree assault, reckless driving and driving without an operator’s license.

“This was a senseless act by a driver who would have received a violation level citation for driving without a license,” said HPD Captain Darryl Johnson. “Instead he felt the need to try and run from officers. His actions led to an innocent person getting injured and property being damaged so he could avoid a traffic ticket.”
