Milton-Freewater Motorist Dies in Collision on Highway 11

A Milton-Freewater man was killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 11.

Oregon State Police (OSP) and emergency personnel responded around 6:20 a.m. to the scene at milepost 35. According to the OSP, a northbound Cadillac Deville, operated by Victor Santana-Torres, 23, of Milton-Freewater, drifted into the oncoming lane and struck a transit van operated by Bradley Varvell, 55, of Walla Walla, Wash.

Santana-Torres sustained fatal injuries and Varvell was transported to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla with serious injuries.

Highway 11 southbound traffic was closed for approximately four hours. Driver fatigue is being investigated as a contributing factor in the crash, according to the OSP.

OSP was assisted by Milton-Freewater Police Department, Milton-Freewater Rural Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
