PENDLETON, Ore.-The Pendleton School District will have a new Superintendent when students head back to school in the fall.
On March 11, the district announced that Dr. Michelle Jensen, currently a Principal in the West-Linn Wilsonville School District on the West side of Oregon, is its next Superintendent, effective July 1.
“I am truly honored to be named the next Superintendent of Pendleton School District,” said Dr. Jensen, who has strong ties to Eastern Oregon and the region. “Pendleton has a strong sense of tradition, community and commitment to student success; I am excited to partner with educators, families, and community members to build upon that foundation”
Dr. Jensen grew up in Homedale, Idaho, a small town that she credits for her strong work ethic and sense of community.
“My teachers weren’t just instructors—they were mentors, supporters, and advocates who shaped my future,” Dr. Jensen said. “I wanted to be part of that impact, helping to create environments where students feel supported, empowered, and inspired to reach their full potential.”
That work ethic led Dr. Jensen to Eastern Oregon University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree, then to Washington State University, where she completed her master’s, and ultimately to Oregon State University, where she graduated with a PhD.
Dr. Jensen worked as a Counselor in the Hermiston School District from 2005-2014 before moving on to the position of Coordinator of Strategic Initiatives until 2016.
“My time in Hermiston was instrumental in shaping my leadership journey, giving me a deep understanding of the culture, strengths, and resources unique to Eastern Oregon,” said Dr. Jensen. “I am incredibly grateful for my experience in the Hermiston School District and for the many outstanding educators who influenced my perspective on strong instruction and effective school leadership.”
Dr. Jensen’s journey of educational leadership continued as a Principal in the Hillsboro School District from 2016-2019, and with the West-Linn Wilsonville SD, where she currently works as a Principal.
When Dr. Jensen joins the Pendleton SD she hopes to address challenges, such as educator attraction and retention and ensuring instructional practices align with district goals for student achievement, in addition to building a culture of support for students, staff and the community.
“My priority is to listen, learn, and work collaboratively to ensure every student has the opportunities and support they need to thrive,” said Dr. Jensen. “I look forward to building relationships, fostering trust, and working together to create a bright future for Pendleton’s schools.”
