Norris Gene Logsdon passed away at his home in Hermiston on October 31, 2025 at the age of 85.

He was born on February 5, 1940 in Wall, South Dakota to Aaron and Emma Logsdon.

In 1945, just after World War II, Norris and his family moved from Virgil, South Dakota to Baker City because Aaron’s brother, sister and parents lived in Baker City and thought there would be more work opportunities. Norris married Dorothy Cress on June 23, 1958, and they lived in Baker City prior to moving to La Grande until they divorced. Norris then moved to Hermiston, where he purchased Snipes Mountain Sand in 1992.

Norris began working at his father’s ready-mix sand and gravel company at a very young age. Under current laws, it would be illegal to work at so young an age. Norris owned two classic cars: a 1956 red and black Ford convertible hard top and a 1957 black Chevrolet with the silver fins on the sides. He was able to purchase these cars because he worked from such a young age. He had a strong work ethic and worked hard all his life. His career was spent in construction.

He is survived by his four children, Laurie (Doug) Callison, Greg (Kim) Logsdon, Luanne Logsdon and Susan Logsdon; his four grandsons, Parker Callison, Jake Logsdon, Caleb Logsdon and Layne Logsdon; and his sister, Patricia (Patsy) Hampton and her four children, Randy (Charlene) Hampton, Kevin (Penny) Hampton, Kent Hampton and Lisa (Tony) Briggs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron Logsdon and Emma Cary Bauder Logsdon; his niece, Debra (Debbie) Jean Hampton; nephew, Donnovan Flovel Hampton Jr.; and brother-in-law, Donnovan Flovel Hampton.

Services were held on November 17-18, 2025.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
