ODOT Working on Multiple Highway Projects Throughout Eastern Oregon

The Oregon Department of Transportation’s (ODOT) summer construction season in Eastern Oregon continues with many projects already under way and a few more yet to begin.

The majority of the projects deal with pavement, sidewalks and bridges.

Amercians With Disabilities  Act upgrade projects are continuing in the following locations:

  • Umatilla County, with work in Hermiston and Stanfield, (watch for permanent
    traffic pattern changes/lane reconfiguration in Stanfield)
  • Union County, with ongoing work in Elgin and Island City
  • Malheur County, with ongoing work in Vale and Nyssa
  • Wallowa County, with work continuing in Enterprise later this summer

Other projects in the Umatilla and Morrow County area include:

  • I-82 McNary Highway – Replace sign and sign structures in poor condition between I-84 and Umatilla, mileposts zero-10.68. Minimal traffic impacts with work occurring along the shoulder. Work expected to begin fall or winter 2021. Completion: December 2023.
  • I-84 Old Oregon Trail Highway – Replace sign and sign structures in poor condition on I-84 between Cascade Locks and Pendleton, mileposts 47.10-212.5. Minimal traffic impacts with work occurring along the shoulder. Work expected to begin fall or winter 2021. Completion: December 2023.
  • I-84 Old Oregon Trail Highway – Repair/replace 33 culverts, mileposts 157-254. Intermittent isolated lane closures during the day. Speeds reduced to 50 MPH when lane closure is in place. Work is ongoing. Completion: October 2021.
  • I-84 Old Oregon Trail Highway – Resurface travel and passing lanes, entrance and exit ramps, between Meacham and Spring Creek, mileposts 238-248.5 (eastbound), 238-246 (westbound). Expect lane closures, reduced speeds and minor delays for freeway upgrades. Work is ongoing. Completion: December 2022.
  • I-84 Old Oregon Trail – Maintenance rut patching, mileposts 159-168. Lane closures in both fast and slow lanes. Watch for trucks and crews along the highway. Work is ongoing.
    Completion: August 2021.
  • I-84 Old Oregon Trail – Deck seal on Exit 182 freeway overpass bridge. Signs and flaggers will guide traffic through work zones. Watch for trucks and crews along the highway. Work is ongoing. Completion: August 2021.
  • U.S. 30 Pendleton Highway – Upgrade traffic signals in Pendleton and ADA curb ramps at
    Southeast Court Avenue/Southeast First Street intersection. Traffic signal removal along Dorian Avenue at Southeast First Street and Southwest Fourth Street intersections. Expect lane and sidewalk closures in work zones. Work expected to start later this year. Completion: May 2022.
  • U.S. 395 Umatilla-Stanfield Highway – Repave highway from Hermiston just east of Southeast Fourth Street, through Stanfield ending near the I-84 overpass; mileposts 6.03-12.52. Lane reconfiguration in Stanfield, from Locust Street to South Dunne Street. ADA curb ramp upgrades in both cities. Traffic pattern change in downtown Stanfield. Expect reduced speeds, lane closures and width restrictions during paving. Work is ongoing with ADA upgrades in Stanfield. Completion: November 2021.
  • Various Highway sections in Umatilla County – Signal upgrades in Hermiston, Pendleton,
    Umatilla, Stanfield and Milton-Freewater. Potential lane closures, traffic pattern changes and reduced speeds. Work is ongoing. Completion: 4/2022.
