Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) has welcomed fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopedic surgeon Zhiqing Xing, MD-PhD, to Good Shepherd Orthopedics.
“We are excited that Dr. Xing made the decision to join our growing orthopedics team,” said GSHCS President & CEO Art Mathisen. “His experience and skill set complement our other accomplished orthopedic surgeons well. Dr. Xing is a dedicated orthopedist trained in robotic surgery that will make a positive impact to the health and well-being of our region.”
Good Shepherd Orthopedics is located on the second floor of the Good Shepherd Medical Plaza at 620 NW 11th St., Suite M-201 in Hermiston.
Xing brings nearly 15 years of experience caring for patients of all ages. He specializes in adult reconstruction (hip/knee/shoulder joint replacement surgery), orthopedic trauma and musculoskeletal oncology, treatment of hip, knee or shoulder arthritis, bone fractures, fracture malunion or nonunion, as well as bone and soft tissue tumors. He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a teaching faculty member of AOTrauma North America.
Xing comes to Good Shepherd after practicing at Trios Health in Kennewick, Wash.
“I joined Good Shepherd because, here, we put our patients first, always,” he said. “Even though we are a mid-sized hospital, we have the cutting-edge technology available at a large hospital or health system, including robotic surgery. If you have any concerns about your bones, joints or muscles, please give Good Shepherd Orthopedics a call.”
Xing received his medical degree from Peking University Health Science Center (formerly Beijing Medical University). He completed his orthopedic residency training at the First Hospital of Peking University, then a visiting fellowship in Japan. After having practiced in Beijing for two years, Xing came to the United States and undertook further training in several renowned institutions.
He had training in orthopedic research at both the University of Tennessee – Campbell Clinic and the University of California – San Francisco. He completed clinical fellowship training in orthopedic trauma at the University of New Mexico, adult reconstruction at the Virginia Commonwealth University, and musculoskeletal oncology at the University of Texas-MD Anderson Cancer Center. He then joined the faculty of orthopedic surgery at the University of South Alabama and had practiced in the Gulf Coast area for more than seven years before he moved to Tacoma, Wash., and practiced within the Virginia Mason Franciscan Health System for over three years. He then practiced at Trios Health in Kennewick, Wash., for two years prior to joining Good Shepherd.
Through his unique experiences, Xing has learned the vast diversity of patients’ conditions, cultural differences, and individual needs. He strongly believes in individualized treatment that is tailored to each patient’s conditions and needs. He follows evidence-based medicine and treats his patients with techniques that have been proved with scientific data.
“My philosophy of care is treating each of my patients as a person, not simply a disease to be treated,” Xing said. “I listen to the patient to understand his or her concerns and needs before recommending an individualized treatment plan in the best interest of the patient.”
