The Oregon State Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a pick-up truck believed to be stolen by a driver who eluded police the previous day.
Tuesday evening, around 8:30 p.m., an OSP trooper attempted to stop a 1993 Chevrolet Camaro for a traffic violation on Highway 730 just east of Umatilla. The vehicle led the trooper on a pursuit over rural county roads, east on Highway 37 and continued on Highway 334. The Camaro was unable to make a turn at an intersection and drove off a steep embankment and into a wheat field and out of sight of pursuing troopers.
The Stanfield Police Department and Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office aided the OSP in locating the Camaro a short distance away. It is believed the driver may have abandoned the Camaro and stolen a 1982 GMC pick-up truck that was later reported stolen from a residence on Reeder Road in the early morning hours of Wednesday.
The pick-up is white, has no tailgate and bears an Oregon license plate number BRS869.
