UMATILLA COUNTY, Ore. – A Pasco woman died and five other people were hospitalized following a two-car, head-on crash on March 4.
Oregon State Police (OSP) and several other law enforcement agencies responded to the crash near milepost 12 near the I-84 on-ramp on Highway 395.
According to the OSP, its preliminary investigation determined that the crash happened when a southbound Buick LaCrosse, driven by a 65-year-old from Pasco, tried to turn left onto the I-84 on-ramp and hit a Toyota C-HR head-on.
The driver of the Toyota, a 41-year-old Hermiston woman headed northbound on Highway 395 and her 10-year-old passenger were hospitalized with minor injuries following the crash.
The driver of the Buick and two of their passengers, an 81-year-old and a 59-year-old, all from Pasco were transported to the hospital after the crash, according to the OSP. Another passenger, a 74-year-old Pasco woman, died at the scene of the crash.
The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office, Stanfield Police, Echo Fire Department, Umatilla County Fire District 1 and the Oregon Department of Transportation all responded to the crash that affected traffic in the area for about three hours until the scene was cleared.
The OSP Collision Reconstruction Unit is now investigating the crash.
