PENDLETON, Ore.-The Pendleton Arts Commission is looking for local artists interested in displaying their work in City Hall.
Art in City Hall is a new Pendleton Arts Commission program that will provide artists who live and work in Pendleton with the opportunity to exhibit their work in a public space.
“The Art in City Hall program creates a dedicated space to showcase local artists and gives visitors another reason to engage with the work being created in our community,” said Stephanie Huffman, chair of the Pendleton Arts Commission.
Artists may now submit images of up to three pieces of art for consideration in the inaugural Art in City Hall show, set to run from Oct 6 through Dec 23, that will feature original, two-dimensional artwork displayed in the second-floor hallway of City Hall.
Eligibility requirements and submission guidelines are available online through the City of Pendleton.
According to the Arts Commission, the first Art in City Hall show will not have a specific theme and will highlight local artists working in any two-dimensional medium.
Art railing has been installed on some of the walls inside Pendleton City Hall, and artists are invited to view the display rail system before submitting any artwork, according to the City.
The deadline for art submissions is August 7, after which entries will be reviewed and selected by the Art in City Hall subcommittee of the Pendleton Arts Commission.
There is no entry fee to submit art for consideration, and artists whose work is selected for the Art in City Hall exhibit will be notified September 1.
The Pendleton Arts Commission plans to host four Art in City Hall shows each year: one from January through March, the next from April through June, another from July through September, and one from October through December.
Before each Art in City Hall exhibition, the City of Pendleton will publish a call for artists, application materials, submission guidelines, and an exhibition and loan agreement on the City’s website.
The Pendleton Arts Commission is also accepting applications for new members.
The Arts Commission makes recommendations to the City Council for local policy, strategic planning, and the purchase, placement, and maintenance of City-owned art in public places.
According to the City of Pendleton, Arts Commission members identify spaces that can be enhanced by creative placemaking, facilitate calls for proposals, and oversee projects to their completion.
The seven members of the Pendleton Arts Commission are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council.
Pendleton Arts Commission applications are available online or at the Administration office at City Hall.
The first round of applications will be reviewed at the Arts Commission’s July 28th meeting.
