Sarah Joyce Bruce passed away on Sept. 10, 2026 at her home in Hermiston at the age of 79 surrounded by the family she loved so deeply.
She was born on May 30, 1947 in Brawley, Calif.
Throughout her 79 wonderful years, she built a life defined not by possessions or accomplishments, but by something far more meaningful: family, love, and the countless memories she created with the people who meant everything to her.
Sarah dedicated her life to her family. She shared 57 amazing years of marriage with her husband, Harold Bruce, building a life and a family together that would grow across generations. She was a devoted wife, mother, granny, great-granny, and great-great-granny.
Sarah loved being outdoors, making memories with the people around her, and turning ordinary moments into traditions her family will carry with them for years to come. She especially loved holiday baking and making the cabin feel warm, welcoming, and homey; a place where her family could gather, laugh, eat, celebrate, and simply be together.
She had a way of making a house feel like home and family gatherings feel special. The things she did out of love – the baking, the spoiling, the traditions, the time spent together, and all the little touches that made everyone feel cared for – will be remembered just as much as the big moments.
Although her family must now learn how to make memories without her physically beside them, Sarah leaves behind an extraordinary legacy. It lives in her family and in every tradition, recipe, story, holiday, cabin gathering, and memory they continue to share.
Seventy-nine years. Fifty-seven years of marriage. Four children. Fourteen grandchildren. Twenty-seven great-grandchildren. Two great-great-grandchildren. One beautifully amazing life that touched generations.
Sarah will be deeply missed, endlessly loved, and forever remembered by the family to whom she gave her whole heart.
Sarah is survived by her husband, Harold; their four children, Tammie Jones, Bonnie Kessell, Steve Bruce, Scottie Bruce, and their spouses; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her family was her greatest joy, and there was perhaps nothing she enjoyed more than spoiling her grandchildren and making each of them feel loved. Sarah is also survived by one sister and one brother.
She was preceded in death by one sister and her parents, Billie McGriff and Jack Driver.
A memorial service will be held for Sarah on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.
