Two Hermiston School District administrators will be leaving their current positions to take on new roles within the district.

Dr. Jon Mishra is leaving his role as director of operations and business services to serve as the district’s special programs director, according to Hermiston School District Superintendent Dr. Fred Maiocco. His successor will be athletics and activities director Mike Kay.

Mishra has been the director of operations and business services for the past three years. Prior to that, he was a middle school principal in the district.

In his new role, Mishra will supervise educational services for special student populations, including those with federally-protected learning disabilities, as well as talented and gifted students. Mishra will replace Joanne Mabbot, who is leaving the district on June 30.

Kay will assume administrative oversight of district operations including maintenance, custodial, grounds, warehouse, food service, transportation and safety operations. Kay has served as the district’s athletics and activities director for 10 years. He will oversee the hiring of a new Hermiston High School athletic director and provide ongoing supervision of these programs.

“It has been an exciting 10 years working within the athletic office,” said Kay. “I am looking forward to working with our great community partners, while continuing efforts to improve our facilities and general district operations.”

Business operations for the Hermiston School District will be reassigned to the direct oversight of Deputy Superintendent Wade Smith. The administrative changes will take effect July 1.
