A Texas man who was on his way to John Day on foot got lost in the Yellow Jacket Road area near Pilot Rock and had to be rescued by the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team.

The sheriff’s office received a call around 11:45 p.m. Monday night from Cameron Noble who said he was lost somewhere in the area of Yellow Jacket Road. He was on his way to John Day – and eventually Reno, Nev. – but got turned around and lost his way.

The search and rescue team was sent to the area and found Noble just after 3 a.m. near a fire he had built. He was in good condition and taken to a Pendleton bus station to continue on his way.

“My hat always goes off to our volunteer Search and Rescue team,” said Umatilla County Sheriff Terry Rowan. “They dedicate a lot of their time in training and preparing for searches, and they are all very familiar with Umatilla County and the wilderness areas. They have responded to countless search events and have saved numerous lives due to their dedication and commitment.”
