Shay Jeffery Self, formerly of the Hermiston area, passed away on Sept. 20, 2026 in Portland at the age of 35.
He was born on Oct. 29, 1990 in McMinnville to Jeff Self and Tina Moran.
Shay was a loving son, brother, father, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He had a contagious smile, an unforgettable laugh, and a heart that cared deeply for the people in his life. He was always willing to help someone in need and had a way of bringing light and laughter into the lives of those around him.
Shay had a special way of showing his love. He was affectionate, always ready with a hug or a kiss, and if you ever asked him for a little space, he would simply smile and say, “I just love you so much!” That was Shay—his heart was full, and he loved his people deeply.
Above all, Shay was a father. His greatest pride and his number one girl was his daughter, Maycee. The love they shared was one of the most meaningful parts of his life, and their bond will forever remain a part of his legacy.
Shay is survived by his parents, Tina Moran (Bill) and Jeff Self (Becky); his daughter, Maycee; his sisters, Ashley and Stephanie; and his brothers, David and Dawson; along with his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
We will carry Shay with us in the stories we tell, the memories we cherish, and the love he gave so freely.
Rest peacefully, Shay. You will always be loved, always remembered, and forever missed.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026 at the Burns Mortuary Chapel, 685 W. Hermiston Ave.
A reception/celebration of life potluck will be held after the memorial service at 1835 S. Highway 395, Hermiston from 2 to 4 p.m.
