The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office will be teaming up with other agencies around the state for the Christmas and New Year season in an effort to crack down on impaired drivers.

From Dec. 11, 2015 to Jan. 1, 2016, the Sheriff’s Office will be participating in Oregon’s High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) grant program looking for impaired drivers. The Sheriff’s Office will have extra deputies patrolling the roadways looking specifically for intoxicated and distracted drivers.

UCSO wants to remind people that intoxicated driving does not mean alcohol alone, but also includes driving while under the influence of prescription and/or illegal drugs.

“Our goal is simple. To save lives”, said Sgt. Joshua Roberts. “Our hope is that everyone has a safe holiday season; but if you drive while intoxicated, you will be arrested. Plan ahead, and arrange for a cab or designated driver.”

If you see what you believe to be unsafe operation of a motor vehicle, call 541‐966‐3650, or 911 if it appears to be an emergency.
