HERMISTON, Ore.-The Hermiston Chamber of Commerce hosted its first-ever speed-networking event for local businesses on March 26.

About 40 people representing 35 different businesses and organizations attended the luncheon catered by Veg Out at the Hermiston Community Center.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled with the lively exchanges between local businesses,” said Val Hoxie, Executive Director of the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce. “It was incredible to witness the connections being made.”

Businesses, nonprofits and service organizations ranging from childcare, unemployment services, banking, restaurants, retail and more were represented at the luncheon.

“More than once I heard, ‘wow, I had no idea that was a business or service here’,” said Hoxie. “And that’s what it’s all about-keeping money local is the Chamber’s mission.”

Following a sort of “speed dating” format, attendees held informal one-on-one conversations lasting about three minutes, before moving to the next business or service for another conversation.

The format allowed attendees to quickly make business connections and pursue possible opportunities for the future.

“I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the members and attendees that contributed to the success of this event,” said Hoxie. “It was truly an amazing experience.”

While this was the first speed-networking event hosted by the Chamber more could be held in the future to help local businesses and services connect with one another and the community.
