Armand Larive Middle School will host the Oregon Association of Student Councils (OASC) fall middle school regional workshop on Monday, Oct. 3, from 8:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., at the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center.
The event could potentially bring about 150 middle school student leaders from Armand Larive, Sandstone Middle School, Baker, Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Malheur, Morrow, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa and Wheeler County schools.
The middle school students will be energized, motivated, and entertained by Russ Peak, the keynote speaker. Aside from being a leading authority on motivation, leadership, communications, goal-setting and team building, he is also a magician and hypnotist!
After the keynote address, the young leaders will work on a service project, making grocery bags out of used t-shirts. Once completed, the students will donate them to a local retirement center.
These young leaders are also participating in a statewide service project called “One Dollar for Life.” All Oregon students are invited to donate $1 to go towards a school expansion in Nicaragua. Oregon will be sending 17 high school students and three adults to Nicaragua to help with the project during the 2017 spring break.
The Oregon Association of Student Councils is a non-profit member association that serves middle and high schools throughout the state. The organization provides leadership development to students and advisors. The association is sponsored by the Confederation of Oregon School Administrators (COSA) and is recognized by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC).
