Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) recently completed construction and installation of the best MRI technology available to hospitals today. The new MRI machine is open to patients this week in Good Shepherd’s Diagnostic Imaging Department located at 610 N.W. 11th Street in Hermiston.

“Good Shepherd Board of Trustees and Administration believe in providing the best, most up-to-date technology available for our patients, which is why they did not hesitate to invest in the Canon Orion MRI system,” said Robert Rose, GSHCS Diagnostic Imaging manager.  “This MRI machine is one you may find in a major metropolitan area or university-based medical center, but not anywhere within three hours of here.  From a quality standpoint, there is no reason for our community to travel out of the area for MRI needs.”

Described as the quietist, quickest and most comfortable MRI machine, it will likely surpass patients’ expectations compared to the standards we have been used to. In addition, the machine delivers the clearest, full-quality image available for physicians to diagnose with confidence.

“When choosing a new MRI system for Good Shepherd, we looked at not only finding the highest level of image quality, but also to enhance and improve our patients’ overall experience,” Rose said. “We feel we have done this with our new Canon Orion.  The image quality is unsurpassed in this region, boasting new Artificial Intelligence software, as well as the latest advancements for improving resolution of images.  As for the patient experience, this system has the quietest capability on the market, the room has enhanced lighting for a more soothing atmosphere, and the new technology is tailored for improved scan time and throughput.”

From a physician’s perspective, the quality image alone is worth recommending that patients travel to Good Shepherd.

“Staff have already commented on the improved detail in the images,” said Rose. “MRIs at Good Shepherd now take 20 minutes (compared to the former 30-40 minutes) and generate a collection of images in multiple orientations, allowing the images to be ‘sliced and diced’ for a very comprehensive view with the highest resolution possible.  In other words, it is extraordinarily fast without compromising quality.”

Physicians are used to MRI imaging that requires them to, “see through the noise.”

“This image quality matters to clinicians – if you are having to apply filters to images as most MRI units do, you are actually removing anatomical data,” said Rose. “No filters used means that clinical diagnostic confidence goes up.”

Rose said patients will experience the personalization and comfort during their scheduled MRI.

“We even have a unique lighting system (thanks to Sentient Suite by PDC) that we can change the hue if the patient so desires,” said Rose. “Like the soothing of blue?  We can do that!  Want more spice with perhaps some yellow and red?  We can do that as well!  Combined with your music choice from our streaming options and these personal touches, we believe all this helps make the procedure that much more comfortable for our patients.”

  1. How about that Board of Trustees and Administator get a new, user friendly phone system. We need direct phone numbers to all departments, doctor’s offices, and other facilities. Having one or two phone numbers for the entire hospital and doctor’s offices is insane. You spend hours waiting to get thru to a recording that asks you to leave a message and maybe someone will get back to you.
