PENDLETON, Ore.-Two people were injured in a fire that destroyed two homes on the 300 block of Southwest Dorion Avenue in Pendleton on July 23.
Fire crews responded to Southwest Dorion Avenue and Southwest Fourth Street around 5:30 a.m. to find an outbuilding and two homes burning.
The fire had reached the attic of a third house, however, fire crews used defensive hand lines to prevent the home from becoming a total loss.
According to the City of Pendleton, firefighters were also able to protect a fourth home in the area.
Two people were transported to the hospital with serious injuries as a result of the fire, and two other people were referred to the Red Cross for sheltering.
Four blocks of Southwest Dorion Avenue were closed as crews responded to the fire, and drivers should expect an extended closure between third and fourth streets, according to the City of Pendleton.
Multiple emergency services responded to the fire, including units from Pendleton Fire & Ambulance, Umatilla County Fire District No. 1, Umatilla Tribal Fire, East Umatilla Fire & Rescue, and Pilot Rock Fire Department participated in fire suppression.
The cause of the fire is now being investigated by the Oregon State Fire Marshal.
