Two Umatilla County Men Face Second-Degree Murder Charges

The Umatilla County District Attorney has charged two men with second-degree murder in connection with the Jan. 4 death of a Milton-Freewater man.

Michael James Metcalfe, 20, and Jonathan Lee McDonald, 32, were arraigned in Umatilla County Circuit Court on Wednesday on 15 charges each, including the death of George Anthony Martin.

Martin, 61, died from a fatal gunshot wound. He was found inside his home in Milton-Freewater.

Metcalfe, 20, of Milton-Freewater, was charged with second-degree murder, seven counts of first-degree robbery, four counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, one count of second-degree burglary, one count of second-degree arson, and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Metcalfe has been in the county jail since Jan. 6 on previous charges.

Jonathan McDonald

McDonald was charged with second-degree murder, four counts of first-degree robbery, seven counts of second-degree robbery, one count of second-degree burglary, one count of second-degree arson, and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

McDonald, too, was already in custody since Jan. 19 on a parole violation.

Umatilla County District Attorney Dan Primus said the robbery charges are related to incidents that occurred on at least four separate dates.

Judge Christopher Brauer ordered both defendants to be held with no bail pending further proceedings in both cases. According to court records, Metcalfe is next set to appear before the court on May 14, at 8:15 a.m. McDonald is next set to appear before the court on April 8, at 8:15 a.m.
