UMATILLA COUNTY, Ore.-A Umatilla woman is dead after being hit by a truck on Highway 395 on the morning of December 1.

Oregon State Police (OSP) responded to the crash near milepost 2 around 5:53 a.m. and found a pedestrian, identified as 31-year-old Breann Hailey Mayberry, of Umatilla, on the northbound shoulder of the road.

Mayberry was pronounced dead at the scene, according to OSP, and the initial investigation showed she was hit by a white Freightliner commercial truck and trailer, and that the driver did not stop after the crash.

While responding to the crash, OSP investigators reportedly saw a white Freightliner and trailer with damage being towed on the highway. According to the OSP, the damage to the truck was consistent with evidence at the crash scene, and the truck was seized as evidence.

The driver of the Freightliner, a 66-year-old Yakima man, was arrested on suspicion of failure to perform the duties of a driver.

Hermiston Police, Umatilla County Fire District #1 and the Oregon Department of Transportation all responded to the crash that impacted traffic on Highway 395 in the area for about five hours.

The Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit’s investigation into the crash is ongoing.
