Wanda Schnell Passes Away at 88

Wanda N. Olson Schnell died on July 12, 2026 at her home in Irrigon surrounded by her family at the age of 88.

She was born on May 29, 1938 in Salem to Milton and Myrtle Huwe.

Wanda lived in Echo with her first husband, Stanley D. Olson Sr., from 1960 until 1993, where they raised their three children. She moved to Irrigon in 1993 and later retired from Lamb Weston in Hermiston as a plant mechanic.

Wanda was an active member of the Irrigon community, serving on the Stokes Landing Senior Center board and former owner of the Skinny Bull Ag Museum.

She is survived by her sister, Lynn Rothe, Portland; daughters, Cathy Groves and Lorrie Hastings and her son, Stanley “Dean” Olson Jr., all of Irrigon; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Wanda was preceded in death by her first husband, Stanley D. Olson Sr.; her second husband, Wayne Schnell; her parents; sisters, Evonne Ehenger and Dorla Wiest; brother, Wayne Huwe Sr; son-in-law, Mike Hastings; and two nephews, David Rothe and Vern Wiest.

A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026 at 1 p.m. at Stokes Landing Senior Center, Irrigon.

A private burial was at the Hermiston Cemetery.
