Warner Stein Passes Away at 92

Warner Lee Stein of Hermiston passed away in Hermiston on Feb. 8, 2026 at the age of 92.

He was born on Aug. 25, 1933 in Enterprise to John and Alta Fisher Stein.

Warner grew up in Enterprise, where he attended his schooling. As a young adult he moved to La Grande, where he resided for over 50 years. He owned and operated Steins Wash Haus & Dry Cleaners in LaGrande until retiring in 2006. After retiring he moved to Hermiston, where he had resided for the past 20 years.

Warner enjoyed fishing, was a wonderful handyman, he had an incredible work ethic which he taught to his family, was kind and generous and would give the shirt off his back to someone in need. He was active in many community activities and was a member of the Shrine club as well as several other clubs and lodges in the La Grande area. His family was very important to him and he cherished his grandchildren, whom he liked to spoil with ice cream whenever he could.

Warner married Elaine Williams in La Grande on Dec. 5, 1971.

He is survived by nine children; 34 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two brothers, John and Don; and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Elaine, on Aug. 16, 2021. He was also preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.

A private family service will be held with burial in Enterprise Cemetery.
