HERMISTON, Ore.-Aerial mosquito control spraying is scheduled for the evening of September 23 in Hermiston.
West Umatilla Mosquito Control District (WUMCD) is conducting the targeted spraying by airplane after a large hatch of nuisance mosquitoes in the Power City area along East Bensel Road in Hermiston.
Weather permitting the spraying will be done after sunset.
Nuisance Mosquitoes, while bothersome, do not spread germs that make people sick, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
A total of 10,000 acres will be sprayed in the Power City area from Lind Road to the Hat Rock Area, and from Highway 730 to Joy Lane, and McNary will also be included in the spray area, according to WUMCD.
Around 45 species of mosquitoes are found in Oregon, with 14 of those species found within the WUMCD.
