The Wildhorse Foundation awarded Umatilla Morrow Head Start Inc.(UMCHS) with a $10,000 grant to purchase a vehicle for the agency in order to better serve high risk families and children.

UMCHS’ Blue Mountain Healthy Families program will be the recipient program that utilizes the vehicle to make home visits weekly to parents’ with babies’ age zero to three.
“This vehicle will enable us to provide 92 home visits a week as part of our comprehensive effort to better equip families for their most important role in life – parenthood,” said Executive Director Maureen McGrath.

“We all know that children don’t come with a handbook, and these home visits prepare parents in a way that sets children on a positive course for growth and development,” said Director Erin Richards, who leads many of the parent education and support initiatives for UMCHS.

To date, the Wildhorse Foundation has awarded over $9,913,306 in grants to local projects within our communities. Contributions to UMCHS, however, did not end there.

When Rogers Toyota of Hermiston was contacted to arrange the purchase of a vehicle, they charitably offered a vehicle significantly below listing price to ensure the highest return on investment.

“Our community is so generous when it comes to supporting children and families,” McGrath said, “and UMCHS is truly honored to have such altruistic partners.”

Individuals and community organizations can help ensure our children and those who care for them are given all the tools they need to create healthy and happy futures by going to UMCHS.org to explore the many more ways to access services, partner and donate.
