Woman Loses Life in Highway 395 Crash

A Kennewick woman lost her life on Friday in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 395.

The Oregon State Police responded to a report of an accident around 4 p.m. on Highway 395 at milepost 27.5, south of Pendleton and about 8 miles south of Pilot Rock.

Preliminary information indicates a 1998 Buick Century sedan was traveling northbound when it failed to negotiate a left hand curve in the roadway. The Buick crossed over into the southbound lane and collided with a 1994 Lincoln Continental.

The driver of the Buick, Alexxyss L. Therwhanger, 20, of Kennewick, Wash., was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Lincoln Continental, Francis (Frank) Charles Wimberly, 60, of Prairie City, was transported to Kadlec Hospital, Richland, Wash., by air ambulance with serious injuries. Donnetta Marie Kulis, 54, of Prairie City, a passenger of Wimberley’s vehicle, was transported to St. Anthony’s Hospital, Pendleton, by ambulance with serious injuries.

Highway 395 was closed for approximately 90 minutes while the investigation was conducted. Contributing factors are still being investigated.

OSP was assisted by Pendleton Fire/Ambulance, the Pilot Rock QRT, the Pilot Rock Police Department, Oregon Department of Transportation and Pendleton Life Flight.
