29th Annual Wildhorse Pow Wow is July 4-6 in Pendleton

PENDLETON, Ore.-Wildhorse Resort and Casino’s 29th Annual Pow Wow is this weekend in Pendleton.

Admission to the Pow Wow on the Wildhorse Resort and Casino grounds is free, and the community is encouraged to come and spend some of their 4th of July weekend celebrating Indian Country culture.

The weekend-long celebration starts on Thursday, July 3, with a free stand-up comedy show by Homer Shadowheart, in the Wildhorse Sports Bar at 7 p.m.

Shadowheart is a Native American comedian, actor and musician from Cincinnati who uses subtle humor to represent the Native American experience, according to Wildhorse. The show is for ages 21 and up and seating is limited.

The Pow Wow, which features dancing and drumming competitions with over $140,000 in cash and prizes, as well as vendors selling jewelry, artisan items and frybread, starts at 7 p.m. on July 4, with the Grand Entry.

Grand Entry is at 1 p.m. on both Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6, as the Pow Wow continues.

According to a Wildhorse press release on the Pow Wow, dancers and drummers from across the Western United States and Canada will be scored on technical mastery, rhythm and their ability to end on the final drumbeat during competition.

Wildhorse Resort and Casino is located just off of I-84 at exit 216 in Pendleton.
