MORROW COUNTY, Ore.-The Morrow County School District (MCSD) is inviting the community to a public forum at 5 p.m. on May 20, at Irrigon Junior/Senior High School to review the design of the new school.

SĀJ Architecture will present the design developed by the local Design Advisory Committee for the replacement of Irrigon Junior/Senior High School at the forum, and attendees will be able to view the preliminary plans, learn about the design process, and will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the project.

A local Design Advisory Committee (DAC) made up of students, staff, parents, and community members has been working alongside SĀJ Architecture and project partners since November to guide the planning and design process for the project.

According to the MCSD, committee members participated in workshops, reviewed floor plans and site concepts, and helped identify priorities that reflect the unique needs and identity of the Irrigon community and completed the preliminary design phase of the project in February.

“The community has played a huge role in supporting and shaping this project from the beginning,” said MCSD Superintendent Matt Combe. “We’re excited about this opportunity for residents, families, students, and staff to see how their feedback is influencing the design of a new school that will serve Irrigon students for generations.”

Morrow County voters approved a $204.4 million bond to fund replacement of Irrigon Junior/Senior High School, renovation of Riverside Junior/Senior High School, and for the renovation and conversion of the Heppner Jr Sr High building into a K-12 campus, in the May 2025 Special Election.

The Irrigon Junior/Senior High School project is the first of the three projects to get underway, and was prioritized by the MCSD, based on immediate facility needs. The schematic design process for the project will continue in the coming months, with construction of the new Irrigon Junior/Senior High School expected to start in 2027.

The two other bond projects, the renovation of Riverside Junior/Senior High School in Boardman and the Heppner K-12 campus project, are moving forward on separate timelines, while additional security upgrades at primary schools will be completed this summer, according to the district.

More information about the bond projects, construction and completion timelines, and community involvement opportunities is available online through the MCSD.
