The Desert Arts Council has unveiled the lineup for its 30th season that will feature some new treats along with some old favorites.

The season kicks off on Oct. 15 with the Eugene Ballet Company’s production of Cinderella. Toni Pimble’s original choreography and Prokofiev’s beautiful score are unmatched, said Mary Corp, president of the Desert Arts Council.

“It is a visual and auditory masterpiece that is sure to enchant and inspire audience members of all ages” said Corp.

Founded in 1978, the Eugene Ballet Company has grown from a community-based dance group to become one the West’s busiest and most versatile professional dance companies performing in more than 100 cities in 32 U.S. States and eight countries. Pimble pairs the graceful technique inherent in ballet with orchestral accompaniment and the theatrical use of elaborate costumes and staging to remind us of the power of hope and dreams.

Cinderella
The Eugene Ballet Company will present Cinderella in Hermiston on Oct. 15.
The archetypal story of the unjust heroine has influenced popular culture for over 400 years. Though details may differ, the story of ever-kind and gentle Cinderella has been adopted and described throughout the world. Dancers will alight the stage of the Hermiston High School Performing Arts Auditorium. Tickets are available online at the Desert Arts Council website, the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce office, and the Hermiston Parks and Recreation Department.

Tickets are $35 for adults and $17.50 for children and can be purchased individually or as a part of season ticket packages which are on sale now. The Hermiston Breakfast Kiwanis Club is the title sponsor for Cinderella.

The season continues with the classical lyrics and dulcet harmonies of a capella sensation, M-PACT, performing their holiday “White Christmas” on Nov. 21. The holidays have never felt more festive, more magical or joyous than in the raw power of the human voice. The Los Angeles-based sextet combines the smooth soul of Stevie Wonder, the percussive power of stomp, and the funk and brass bite of big band with human voice alone.

“We are excited to bring one of the best pop-jazz vocal groups in the world” said Sascha McKeon of the Desert Arts Council. M-PACT will also be conducting master classes with high school choirs during their visit.

For the third consecutive season, the Dancing with the Hermiston Stars extravaganza will be returning Jan. 10, 2015. Hermiston celebrities will pair up with professional dancers and attempt to tackle new routines with pizazz and flair.

Then on Feb. 27, the rich rhythms and vibrant colors of Cirque Zuma will transport audience members to Africa and a wondrous world of acrobatics, contortion, juggling and dance.

The final event of the season will be the 11th Annual Eastern Oregon Arts Festival on May 8-19 on Main Street in Hermiston. Be sure to check out the Desert Arts Council Facebook page for updates and more details over the coming 2014-2015 season.
