HERMISTON, Ore.-The Greater Hermiston Community Foundation (GHCF) has awarded over $65,000 in grants for community projects in 2026.

Organizations awarded funding were selected based on the lasting benefits of their projects to the Greater Hermiston area and were funded through the GHCF’s Forever Fund.

“People have been so generous to donate to the forever fund, and it’s gratifying to be able to invest the proceeds from that fund back into these worthy community projects,” said Greg Harris, Greater Hermiston Community Foundation Chair.

The GHCF announced that five organizations were awarded grants for projects that will improve athletics and recreation facilities, restore historic landmarks, and enhance the beauty of local communities, on June 22.

Recreation projects receiving funding include transforming McNary Tennis Court Park into a pickleball court in Umatilla, completing lighting at the HEROS Sportsplex in Hermiston, and paving a walking path in Stanfield, according to the GHCF.

“The construction of these new pickleball courts reflects our commitment to providing high-quality recreational opportunities for residents of all ages,” said Esmeralda Perches, Umatilla Parks and Recreation Director. “We are thrilled and grateful to receive grant funding from the Greater Hermiston Community Foundation, whose support is helping make this project possible.”

The Echo Heritage Association received a grant to help drill a well and build a pump at St. Peter’s Church and a connected property in Echo, the site of a planned community center.

Community Counseling Solutions in Hermiston received a grant to help revitalize its recently leased property on Orchard Avenue with an accessible, community-centered space, according to the GHCF.

The GHCF will also continue to provide matching donations to the American Legion Post 37 Avenue of Flags storage project to build a new facility at the Hermiston Cemetery to store and repair flags through the end of 2026.

The Greater Hermiston Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Hermiston and the surrounding areas. By providing grants and support to local organizations, the Foundation hopes to foster a thriving community for all residents.
