HERMISTON, Ore.-The 37th Annual Light Up A Life fundraiser in support of Vange John Memorial Hospice is now underway and is the perfect way to honor and remember someone this Holiday season.

“Light Up A Life has become a tradition for many families in the community,” said Carollyn Robinson, with Vange John Memorial Hospice. “We hear from families that have received hospice care for a loved one, and they just want to give back and show their deep gratitude for the support they received during a challenging time in their life.”

A symbolic ornament displayed on a Christmas tree in the lobby of the main entrance of Good Shepherd Health Care System in Hermiston will be illuminated for every donation made to Vange John Memorial Hospice throughout December.

For a suggested donation of $25 per name, ornaments may be dedicated to the memory of a friend or family member or made in honor of someone you admire.

“During the Holidays a donation to Light Up A Life is a way of remembering or honoring someone who is no longer with us, or a way to give tribute to someone in your life in a meaningful way,” said Robinson.

The names of all those honored during the Light Up A Life campaign will be read over the air on KOHU 1360 AM on January 11, starting at 6 p.m., a tradition for over 30 years. An MP3 recording of the reading will also be available.

Donors will receive a handmade keepsake Christmas ornament, crafted by hospice volunteers, that may be picked up during a reception with coffee and cocoa from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on January 8, in the GSHCS lobby.

Donations from the Light Up A Life fundraiser help Vange John Memorial Hospice care for patients and their families throughout the year and can be made by scanning the QR code on the attached flyer or online.

“Over the past 37 years, the donations we have received have gone to many programs for our hospice patients and families,” said Robinson. “We use many of the funds to purchase our ongoing bereavement mailers, Grief Share resources for our grief groups throughout the year, and the funds also help cover the cost of additional supplies that are needed but not covered under the traditional reimbursement structure.”

Anyone can donate and submit honoree names online until January 10, 2026.
