HERMISTON, Ore.-The Hermiston High School Boys Soccer Team will be led by a former Bulldog when they take to the pitch this fall.

Miguel Moreno was introduced as the new Head Soccer Coach by the Hermiston School District (HSD) on June 23.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Miguel Moreno as the next leader for Hermiston boys soccer,” said Larry Usher, Director of Athletics and Activities for Hermiston High School. “I’ve had the privilege of watching Miguel work his way up to head coach, he’s shown incredible dedication, talent, and vision.”

Moreno was born and raised in Hermiston, graduated from Hermiston High, attended the University of Idaho and Western Governors University, and now teaches Biology at his alma mater.

That personal, lifelong connection to the community, as well as his passion for soccer made Moreno the right choice to lead the Bulldogs, according to the district.

“His path reflects a commitment to learning and mentorship,” the HSD said in a press release announcing Moreno’s hiring.

Moreno coached the Sandstone Middle School boys’ soccer team for two seasons before serving as the Junior Varsity coach at Hermiston High last year and the district believes that experience with the Bulldogs’ program is essential to developing athletes and building team culture.

“We’re all excited to see where he takes the program next,” said Usher.
