PENDLETON, Ore.-History will come alive during the fifth annual Quiet Neighbors event at Olney Cemetery on October 4.

Quiet Neighbors: Historic Olney Cemetery Tour is a living history event that features costumed performers playing historic figures who are buried in the cemetery.

“We started as a nice outdoor walk in the clear October air, admiring our historic cemetery while hearing the tales of our neighbors of long-ago Pendleton,” said Quiet Neighbors committee chair Heather Culley. “This year, we are featuring new neighbors and new stories of old times.”

Attendees are guided through the cemetery to meet the “neighbors,” who will be dressed in costumes made by volunteers or borrowed from the Umatilla County Historical Society, and hear their stories.

2025 marks the fifth year that Olney Cemetery staff and the volunteer Quiet Neighbors Committee have put on the living history event at the historic 50-acre cemetery in southwest Pendleton.

The tours are free, but donations are welcome and no reservations are required. Tours begin near the Olney Abbey Mausoleum at 1 p.m. and leave every 20 minutes. The final tour of the day will leave at 5:40 p.m.

Olney Cemetery is located at 865 Tutuilla Road in Pendleton.
