PENDLETON, Ore.-The public is invited to the annual meeting of the Pioneer Humane Society at the Saddle Restaurant in Pendleton, OR on April 10.

Started in 1975, the Pioneer Humane Society, which operates the Pendleton Animal Welfare Shelter (PAWS), is a nonprofit no-kill shelter that works to help homeless, lost, and at-risk animals and pet owners in Pendleton and the surrounding area.

A volunteer Board of Directors guides the Pioneer Humane Society, which is run by a small staff and volunteers.

“An animal shelter board needs people with diverse backgrounds and talents,” said Board Vice President Shaindel Beers. “Someone might have animal or veterinary knowledge, or marketing or fundraising knowledge, or even be talented in landscaping and home repair and be able to help their local shelter.”

Information about applying to become a board member and other volunteer opportunities at PAWS are available online.

The annual meeting is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m., with the regular board meeting of the Pioneer Humane Society to follow.

The Saddle Restaurant is located at 220 SE Court Avenue in Pendleton.

“If you love animals and want to help, please ask where you could fit in,” said Beers.
